As of today, I'm an Estonian e-resident

It all started one late evening a couple of months ago while reading this article on Wired.

"The Estonians want to offer the option for, say, UK citizens to run their UK companies through the Estonian system, which would in turn, in the background, make sure the UK tax office receives all the money it is legally due. [...] In other words, a nation is now competing with its neighbours on the basis of the quality of its user interface. Just as you might switch your bank to one with a better mobile app, the Estonians hope you'll switch your business to a country with an infrastructure that is easier to use."

What a brilliant idea?! When I was a child I was telling my parents that I would become the prime minister and cease cash usage because it causes people steal and lie. A few years later I became more "sophisticated" and started asking them... "Why do we need politicians? Can't we just vote directly for everything using ATMs?" (Today I think I know why we shouldn't.)

Fast forward a few decades I find myself, today, in front of the Estonian embassy with - of course - no cash (I start to forget what it looks like) - waiting to receive my e-residency card. With such a card Estonians...

"[...] can purchase a car or vote from their living room or, when it's like minus 40 outside and you have a newborn baby, you probably don't want to go to the family office to name her: you do that online."

Even though apparently I'm not eligible to such rights right now and some functionalities are not perfect yet (you can read more on the current status here) I'm very excited to support this experiment and send my message to every developed country...

This is the way to go! Eliminate bureaucracy and embrace healthy competition.
